Wikia Design and Template[]

  • RedReaper83 & Motorslave, do you think we should split Quest Information and Card Database into several pages like Basics or just leave them as single page article?

2 days ago by DinoKevReply

    • [1]I'm ok with leaving the Quest Information the way it is or spliting it by city. Having it all on one page make it easier to navigate for some people.

I think we should the Card Database by type. If we list the stats for every card up to level 16 or so, the card database will be quite long. {C}2 days ago by Motorslave

    • [2]Maybe we should create a page for each card? Or create one page for a type and rarity and have different sections dedicated to each card. Then we could put the stats at different levels on that page?

For example on the page Rare_Mombies, each heading would contain the name of a rare mombie. Then under the heading it would have the stats for each level, maybe the quote on the card, and anything else pertinent to the card.

Personally, while it would be a tedious task, I think making a page for each card would be my favorite option rather than grouping them, but what do you guys think? {C}2 days ago by RedReaper83

    • [3]I like the idea of each card having a page of its own. We can use templates to standardise the format, for e.g. image size. It would take a long time to complete though but i like it =)

On a side note I think the forum might be hard for some users to navigate due to wikia's different format, I think it would be a better idea to allow users to post trades and friend code under here & here as comments. What do you guys think? 1 day ago by DinoKev

    • [4]I agree that it would be nice to have a page for each card. Is there a way to link data from one page? This would simplify updates and prevent conflicting information on two different pages. For example: Rare_Mombies would check the master card database page and pull all the rare Mombie cards without having to update both pages?

I agree with DinoKev that it would probably be easier for people to find friend requests and trade requests on a page instead in the forum section of the wikia. Though should these perhaps be left on the GREE forum since our goal is to gather and present information about the game to users. 1 day ago by Motorslave

    • [5]I was thinking we make "Rare Mombies" & "Rare Cards" into individual category page. If I have not mistaken there is a code that will generate a clickable picture gallery based on the pages listed under the category. We keep the tables but move all the other level stats to the individual card page as this is the only variable for the table, the rest of the L1 stats are fixed. Therefore if a new card came out, we will need to input the data into its respective table for once and keep updating the particular card page with the additional stats and information. As long as we add that card page into the category, it will show up in the category page. But I don't think the stats will show up in the category page though.

    • [6]I like the friend/trade request idea! I just didn't want it on this page. If we let one person do it, more would do it and eventually this page would be filled with friend/trade requests instead of info about the site/game. If it has its own page, that would be better.

As for the clickable links, we don't necessarily need a clickable gallery. We could just make the "name" of each card in the table link to its own card's page. That way if someone wanted more info about a card they find in the table, they can just click on the name of the card. Look at this example: click here Then click on the Dia De Los Muertos link. We can play with the format of the card page.... I just wanted to throw up a quick example.

What do you guys think? 1 day ago by RedReaper83

    • [7]No opinions on what I proposed? If you guys have any other ideas, please share. I'd like to see them so we can decide what to go with. I'd be more than happy to start up the individual pages, but I don't want to start them until we agree that its the right/wrong way.

    • [8]I'm okey with it. We just need to have a consistant format for the individual card page. It's better to create templates for the pages so that if in future we need to add something in general to all the pages, for e.g. an addtional bullet point or navbox, we don't have to copy and paste stuff into each of the pages.

    • [9]Bleh... templates. :P Just kidding. You're right, we should use templates. I just haven't figured those things out yet completely. I'll take a look at it sometime this weekend if I get some time. And then we can get started on individual pages. BTW, the site is looking fantastic DinoKev.

    • [10]What do you guys think of this template?

Template:Cards

You fill in the blanks after adding the template and it fills in the page for you pretty much (except for the stats at different levels). If you have any suggestions on how to make it better, please let me know. I know its not perfect and it could use some work. Also, if anyone can make a default picture until we can get pictures up, that would be fabulous.

You can see it in use here:

    • [11]I like the card template. I think using the "wiki logo" as default is fine or we can use the picture of a green flipped side of the card as seen in the collection section. On a side note I think we need to send our "logo" and wordmark to Gree for approval as it might have violated their terms.

5 hours ago by DinoKev

    • [12]Yeah, I wasn't sure about that. Laws are such a pain... :P What wordmark are you talking about? I see the logo, is that what you meant? If we create our own logo without using a screenshot of the app and it looks kind of like their logo, I think we're okay. It's just using a screenshot and modifying it might not be good. Should we revert it to the old version?

4 hours ago by RedReaper83

    • [13][14]This is the wordmark I'm talking about. It would not look as awesome without the official zombie jombie logo though but I don't think they should have a problem with that as many other gaming wiki have incoperated a logo with the word "wiki" into their wiki, for e.g. TheSims.1 hour ago by DinoKev

I can't figure out how to include this command into the template, maybe you can figure it out .. basically it's about categories which goes something like this:

If rarity = unknown ; do nothing
If rarity = Normal ; then insert <includeonly>[[Category:Normal_Cards]]</includeonly>
If rarity = Normal+ ; then insert <includeonly>[[Category:Normal%2B_Cards]]</includeonly>
etc....

and

If type = Tombies ; then insert <includeonly>[[Category:Tombies]]</includeonly>
If type = Mombies ; then insert <includeonly>[[Category:Mombies]]</includeonly>
If type = Bombies ; then insert <includeonly>[[Category:Bombies]]</includeonly>
If type = unknown ; then do nothing

    • [16]i notice that you've change the symbols ♂ ♀ to male and female, i think it's better to keep the symbols as it is written this way in the game. We can actually create pages with symbols in the title like in this example.

32 minutes ago by DinoKev

    • [17]Sorry, I didn't see your comments. Hmm... I'm not sure how to include those in the template. Maybe you could do it with javascript, but I imaging there has to be an easier way. I'll take a look at it.

The reason I changed the symbols is because all of those symbols showed up as a square in the browser web address. Therefore the male and female children would link to the same page. We could change them back, just make it so the page name is still /Child(male) or /Child(female), but the actual card title on the card database can still use the symbols. {C}5 minutes ago by RedReaper83

which web browser are you using? I'm using google Chrome and I am able to view the ♂ ♀ in the address instead of blank squares.. the address of the test page is displayed as http://zombiejombie.wikia.com/wiki/%E2%99%82_%26_%E2%99%80 but google chrome will automatically convert in back to the symbols.. Private Messages[]

Is there a way to send private messages to other registered users? —Preceding unsigned comment added by Wink-_-Wink (talkcontribs)

At the moment the only way to send private message is in Special:Chat. The message wall feature is still on trial so maybe Wikia will add private messages feature in the future. DinoKev (talk) 03:07, May 15, 2012 (UTC)

New Namespaces[]

I propose we add two new namespaces to Zombie Jombie Wiki, namely Spoiler and Marketplace. Article comments will be enabled for both namespaces.

The Spoiler namespace will be used when creating new pages containing unreleased material of the game which might spoil the surprise when they are finally released. The javascript to keep the page hidden with the option to choose whether to continue reading or not will be activated automatically with this namespace when a user accidentally come accross the page. Changes to these pages can be hidden from the activity feed too.

The Marketplace namespace will contain Share Friend Codes and Post Trade Requests pages. The purpose of this namespace is to differentiate the article pages from trade posts and friend codes pages in terms of activity. A separate activity feed for the two pages will be possible in future. Feel free to voice out your opinions and whether you agree or disagree to that. See Help:Custom namespaces for more information on custom namespaces. DinoKev (talk) 11:08, May 31, 2012 (UTC)

  • I agree that we should have those namespaces. It will help us to differentiate changes to the site that are trade request/friend codes vs actual article changes. This will help admins and users to better track new information posted in the articles. RedReaper83 17:24, May 31, 2012 (UTC)
  • I've written to Wikia and they have added the new namespaces today =) - DinoKev (talk) 08:00, June 5, 2012 (UTC)
